Find a car you like. Decide what you're willing to pay for it. Create an account and place a bid that is relative to the current highest bid, or minimum bid if you're the first. Keep an eye on it and up your bid if needed but do not exceed your maximum. At the end of the auction if you are the highest bidder congratulations are in order - you've won! SB will send the Seller your details and vice versa and you'll have 24 hours in which to contact one another and arrange for collection and transfer of the sale fee.

Once you’ve created an account, you can go to the listing page and select “Watch” using the Heart icon above and to the right of the image. It will then move to your Garage under Watching.

All SB's listings are publicly viewable, however you'll need to have an active account with us in order to watch, bid, comment or list with us. This is to safeguard our members and deter timewasters.

Unlike some other auction platforms, we believe that SB Buyers prefer to keep things simple and to remain the masters of their own destiny. Once you've found a car you want to bid on and decided on a maximum budget, create an account or log in, go the listing page and select 'Place Bid'. Enter the bid amount which should be greater than the current bid or the minimum starting bid if you're the first. We recommend that you do not place your maximum bid to start with, unless the current highest bidder is close to it. If you're outbid then you can increase your bid incrementally until you reach your maximum bid. Never exceed your maximum bid unless you are confident that a) it's really worth it, and b) you are sure you have the funds available to honour the sale price if you're the winner. When you place a bid you are committing to buy the car at that price. If you are outbid and that bid is subsequently withdrawn, you will then become the highest bidder.

No, when you place a bid it is a binding agreement made between you and the Seller and you are committing to buy the auction item at that price. So make sure you’ve done all your own due diligence prior to placing a bid and only bid if you intend on purchasing the auction item – there are no refunds.

In the interest of fairness and to prevent gazumping, if a bid is placed within 60 seconds of the scheduled end time then the auction will be extended by 2 minutes.

Like an art gallery, we take time to review and curate the collection of cars available on our site and they have to meet a certain standard. There are lots of mass market car auction sites out there, but we see ourselves as serving the discerning car enthusiast, interested in a particular calibre of car. Regretfully, we reserve the right to decline listing applications for cars that do not meet the SB standard, or when we suspect any kind of fraudulent or misleading information. We know our business inside and out and we want you to get the highest possible purchase price for your car. By allowing us to work on your behalf we aim to set the most beneficial auction start, end and duration using our market expertise and knowledge of the other listings we have queued. If you have a certain deadline that you're working to, please let us know and we'll contact you to discuss further.

No - the reserve amount is entirely optional, however a upon review of your listing application a member of our Admin Team may offer some suggestions with regards to reserve pricing.

Once live potential buyers can ask questions via the listing page. We strongly encourage all Sellers to regularly monitor and respond to posted questions in order to maximise bidding activity. You will receive an email and/or SMS (if you've give us permission) each time a comment or question is posted on your listing so that you can log in to respond.

Our auctions typically run for 10 days. If in the unusual event your car doesn’t sell it’s very easy to re-list your car at another time that works for you!

SB aims to keep all our users updated as close to real time as possible. If you're logged in you'll see an onscreen notification on the My Garage view, we'll also send you an email and an SMS text message if you've given us permission.

The reserve price is the minimum amount you are willing to sell the car for. If the reserve is not met, the auction will close and no sale will be made. In this rare instance you'll be invited to relist the car again free of charge in two clicks.

We do everything in our power to ensure your car gets maximum viewing and bidding activity, however despite all best endeavours on occasion an auction will close without securing a sale. In this instance we invite you to relist free of charge with just 2 clicks. You'll also have the opportunity to edit the listing before submitting it should you want to update any details.

All financial transactions are to be handled privately between the Seller and the Buyer, outside of the SB platform.

We want Shooting Brake to be a welcoming and trustworthy marketplace for buyers and sellers alike. Once your car is listed as either Live or in the Coming Soon section of our website, you will not be able to withdraw your listing. If you do choose to withdraw, Shooting Brake will require you to cover the lost Buyer’s Fee, which is 6% of the agreed Reserve Price, subject to a minimum of £500 and a maximum of £5,000. The fee will be calculated based on the Reserve Price agreed between you and Shooting Brake, and if no Reserve Price was set, the minimum charge of £500 will apply. In addition, any photography fees incurred will also be payable in full.

Hopefully this won’t happen but if the reserve price isn’t met, we will show you the best bid. If you choose to accept this bid, we will put you in touch with the buyer to enable the transaction. Note that Shooting Brake has the right to make up the difference between the highest bid and the reserve price to assist with a successful auction. This will be done at Shooting Brake’s own discretion.
